A Bear in a Tree
Several years ago at dusk, just outside of Keithville, Louisiana, someone spotted a black bear in a tree. Word quickly spread around the little town and many of the citizens gathered to see him. The local veterinarian provided a dart gun loaded with drugs to sedate him. Concern was raised that the bear might fall out of the tree and injure himself, so the fire department was called and their net was put in place to catch him.

A bonfire was built and all night long they tried to get that bear out of the tree. It seemed he was oblivious to the crowd and apparently the drugs were having no effect on him because no bear came tumbling from the tree.

Them came the dawn and they could more clearly see that “bear” in the tree. The bear turned out to be a black plastic bag, filled with garbage. No one as of yet has figured out how that garbage bag got to the top of the tree.

Unfortunately, many people live with a “bear up their tree,” and allow it to impact their lives in a harmful way. When they learn the truth they discover the “bear” is negative garbage that has been dumped in their mind over a period of time by music, television, and “friends,” as well as the general public. The good news is that, regardless of their age, a person can get that “bear” out of their tree by bringing it to the light of day – as they did in Keithville, Louisiana. Simply by reversing the process and putting good, clean, pure, powerful, and positive information into their mind, a person can bury that “old garbage.” I have seen numerous people who follow that procedure dramatically improve their lives. You can do the same thing.

What's the Part of You That No One Sees?

The Part of You That No One Sees

You are balanced, peaceful, and sincere.

You're the type of person who goes along to get along.

And you're definitely afraid of rocking the boat.

Underneath it all, you fear your world falling apart.

You'll put up with a situation that you don't like in fear of changing it.

Disruptive and forceful people intimidate you - and sometimes exploit you.

What's the Part of You That No One Sees?

The Bull’s Eye Is “Hit-able”
Somebody once said that the major difference between a big shot and a little shot is that the big shot was the little shot who kept on shooting. There is much truth in that witticism. The reality is, no matter what our target might be, we seldom hit it on the first try unless the target is low, which means the accomplishment – and the rewards – will be insignificant.

In bow shooting, experienced archers will test the wind by using the first shot to judge its strength and direction, enabling them to zero in on the target with their following shots. In short, archers learn from their mistakes. That’s good advice for all of us.

Success in business, athletics, science, politics, or any other endeavor seldom comes on the first effort. Walt Disney went bankrupt a number of times and had at least one nervous breakdown before he made it big. Athletic skills are acquired over a long period of time and after countless hours of practice. Authors by the hundreds can tell you stories by the thousands of those rejection slips before they found a publisher who was willing to “gamble” on the unknown. It’s more than just a cliché that persistent, enthusiastic effort produces powerful, positive results, that failure is an event – not a person – and that the only time you must not fail is the last time you try.

Whatever your target might be, chances are good that you are not going to hit the bull’s eye on the first effort you make at being “successful.” The key is persistence and the willingness to try again in the face of those early misses. You can learn from those early mistakes and if you do keep on shooting, it’s just a question of time before you, too, are hitting the bull’s eye.

The Fact
In the absence of “wake-up calls,” many of us never really confront the critical issues of life. Instead of looking for deep chronic causes, we look for quick-fix Band-Aids and aspirin to treat the acute pain. Fortified by temporary relief, we get busier and busier doing “good” things and never even stop to ask ourselves if what we are doing really matters most.

Are You Messy?

You Are Not Messy

You're so clean, people have accused you of being a clean freak!

You like things tidy, organized, and smelling fresh.

Messes drive you crazy, especially when you didn't make them.

It's hard for you to live with a slob - or someone who leaves their dishes in the sink.

The Autumn Test

Your Autumn Test Results

You are a dynamic, vibrant person. You aren't afraid to pursue your passions.

When you are happiest, you are calm. You appreciate tradition and family. You enjoy feeling cozy.

You prefer change to come slowly. You need a long transition period when your life changes.

You find abundance to be the most comforting thing in the world. You love shopping and having nice things.

Your ideal day is spontaneous and surprising. You like to play things by ear, and you always end up doing something interesting.

You are very impatient. You spend more time waiting for something than actually enjoying it.

Try It – Maybe You Can
You might not be able to carry a tune, do rope tricks, or give humorous, homespun advice, but you do have a song to sing and ability that needs to be developed and used.

The next time someone asks if you can do something you have never done before, don’t automatically respond “no.” Think about it. Maybe you should give it a try. Who knows? Maybe you have talents you have never recognized.

What is a bad idea?
Ideas are a matter of taste.

What is a good idea to some can be bad or boring to others. A good idea is a clever solution to a problem, one that I have never seen before. But if an idea is not taken up and used as a solution to a problem it has no value.

It becomes a non-idea. Lying in a drawer it is useless. Worse than useless, it’s a complete waste of space. Ideas have to be applied before they are recognized as good ideas. Even a bad idea executed is better than a good idea undone.

The longer it is used the better the idea is considered to be. That is why the wheel is reckoned to be the best idea ever.

For the ladies..
SINGAPORE: Breast cancer has overtaken lung and colorectal cancers as the top cancer—killer in Singapore.

So this year’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month hopes to encourage more women to go for screening.

Regular exercise and a healthy diet can help prevent breast cancer. But Singapore’s increasingly affluent and sedentary lifestyle, plus more screening, has resulted in a 25 per cent increase in breast cancer cases over the past 10 years. Previously, women died from breast cancer without being aware they had it. Some 1,300 women are diagnosed with the disease every year, and 313 women die from breast cancer every year. Early detection saves lives, but only 41 per cent of women go for screening.

"Please get a mammogram. It’s subsidised, it’s available, it’s accessible," urged Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports. "I know it’s not the most comfortable thing in life, but it makes a difference and it can save mums, it can save wives, it can save our sisters," he added.

Walks, talks and special offers for screening at hospitals are available during October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Doctors recommend women aged between 40 and 49 to go for a mammogram once a year, and for women aged 50 to 69 to go for screening once every two years. This is the only way to bring down the death rate.

Subsidised mammograms are available throughout the year at all 15 polyclinics and on the mammogram bus. A subsidised mammogram through the BreastScreen Singapore scheme costs S$50 for Singapore citizens and S$75 for Permanent Residents. A mammogram in a private hospital costs about S$110—S$150.

The number of women dying from breast cancer has remained stable over recent years, but the disease has become the top cancer—killer because death rates from lung and colorectal cancer have declined.

One of Singapore’s grand old architectural dames is supporting the screening drive. The Arts House at Old Parliament is being lit up in pink over the next two weeks in support of breast cancer awareness and to remind women to go for mammograms.
